Here's our guide, Seb (in the center). He was extremely knowledgeable of all the sites he took us to and had that thing all great comedians have; timing. Here we are at the holocaust memorial.
This is a portion of the remaining Berlin Wall. Seb took great care explaining the intricacies of the wall's history, politics, and eventual fall. Before the wall was built in 1961, thousands of people fled East Berlin from the Soviets communist rule. To me, the wall is a statement that an idea has failed, and the only way to continue down the ill conceived path is to trap your own people inside while the dumbest experiment in human history is continued. It is estimated that communism has killed 100 million people. The mass murders of all history cannot compare to what communism has achieved. Fuck communism.
This is "Checkpoint Charlie". A picture of an American service man stares to the east.
A bit lighter of a topic, this is the Konzerthaus Berlin. This is where we concluded the tour.
After the tour, we did some wandering. This was a cool side alley market place near museum island we stopped at for an espresso.
Next we headed to museum island. This is the Berlin Cathedral. The portions that are black and charred are from bombings during WW II. The cathedral was heavily damaged, but rebuilt and here it stands.
Inside the cathedral.
The view from the top.
Needed a macchiato. I give it a 7/10.
Berlin is great so far. It's a wealthy city, super clean, and I've felt safe everywhere we've gone. The city's layout reminds me a lot of DC.
